My ‘Ultimate’ Green Joothie (it’s a juicy smoothie!)

I love my job. I am one of the lucky few who has followed their passion and gets to do what they love every day. Helping people to improve their health and feel better than ever using great nutrition is just so rewarding. And believe me, I do not do it for the money! 

But every now and then, a little perk turns up that makes my job just that little bit more rewarding. After writing and blogging about smoothies and green smoothies for what feels like a lifetime, it's wonderful to finally have this recognised.

When the lovely people at Russell Hobbs sent me their brand new 3-in-1 Ultimate Juicer to try out and create my very own smoothie with, I did do a little whoop. I do love a kitchen appliance, and to be sent one by the manufacturers is just a teeny bit exciting!

The 3-in-1 Ultimate Juicer is a juicer, press and blender all in one machine. So you get to make smoothies using a freshly made juice for a delicious flavour, maximum nutrient content and minimal washing up! Win win! 

I love my smoothies as you know, but I tend to use a non-dairy milk or coconut water as the liquid. This is fine, however the option to use a fresh juice as your liquid, without having to get another appliance out of the cupboard is genius! I've really enjoyed using the Ultimate Juicer so far, and have made lots of different variations, but I thought I would create the 'Ultimate' Green Joothie (juicy smoothie!) using my Ultimate juicer! 

Recipe for my 'Ultimate' Green Joothie

For the juice:

  • 1 grapefruit
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 apple
  • Half a cucumber
  • 2 sticks of celery

For the smoothie:

  • Handful of spinach
  • Half an avocado
  • Small chunk of ginger
  • 8 chunks of frozen pineapple
  • 1 tsp of wheatgrass powder


Using the juice press, juice the grapefruit and the lemon - this enables you to extract all of the delicious juice from these fruits, without having to peel them.

Using the juicer, juice the apple, cucumber and celery - harder fruits and veg, work best when run through a juicer.

Then switch to the blender, add your spinach, avocado, ginger, pineapple and wheatgrass to the blending jug and blend it up - spinach works best in a smoothie as it can create alot of wastage if you juice it, and the avocado makes a lovely a creamy smoothie. Blending the ginger allows you to benefit from the whole spice, and frozen pineapple adds a delicious sweetness and a nice, cold smoothie.

The best thing about the Russell Hobbs Ultimate Juicer is that you can use the same jug for the whole process and just screw on the handy flip-top lid and take it out with you. 

Benefits of my Ultimate Green Joothie:

This is a really cleansing smoothie, particularly great for liver detoxification. All of the ingredients have been selected for their role in liver health, particularly the grapefruit, lemon, spinach and ginger. Avocado is a great source of protein and healthy fats, which can help to reduce inflammation; ginger is also a potent anti-inflammatory. 

Cucumber and celery are alkalising which means they counteract the effects of the some of the acid-forming foods that we commonly consume such as caffeine and sugar, and the fruits - apple and pineapple - are both great for digestive health; pineapple is a source of bromelain which is a digestive enzyme. Wheatgrass is a rich source of protein and minerals, and a potent blood builder.

All in all a pretty rockin' smoothie!
